NON-PAYMENT OF RENT
Some lease agreements allow for the landlord to charge a fee for the late payment of rent. Late fees cannot be charged unless they are provided for in the lease agreement. If not written lease exists, fees cannot be charged unless they are agreed upon orally. The law sets no specific amount for late fees; however, unreasonable high fees can be contested.
